These were both completed over the break in a fit of enthusiasm.

First, bit blurry, is a neatly done MkIIB Hurricane. These were post Battle of Britain aircraft used for fighter-bomber missions over France, usually at night. They were armed with 12 machine guns, and carried drop tanks for additional loitering time. This was a nice kit...no complaints whatsoever. Had a multitude of armament options including twin 40mm anti-tank cannon which were very very appealing, but since as far I know this was only used in the desert, and the kit doesn't have the tropical air filters of a desert Hurri, I restrained myself from automatically loading it with the biggest guns I could. It was a struggle :)

Second is the Hudson, which was a pretty irritating kit.....quite an old moulding. The cockpit floor sits a bit low, leaving the pilot in need of a booster seat. Over the course of time it had also lost the rear gunner, so I nicked the Hurricane pilot, amputated his legs at the knees (!) and added sprue cut and glued to shape for the rear turret guns to glue on to.....looks pretty good considering.

Tried a new technique for post-shading which suits kits with raised panel lines.....used Tamiya Smoke, which is a very thin quite transluscent black/grey colour, and sprayed it down all the panel and rivet lines. Didn't manage to keep it as subtle as I wanted, and the Hudson just happens to have a million rivet lines, so it looks a little odd close up, but step back a few feet and the effect is very nice; it stands out on the shelf. Glad I tried it....can see it being a very useful tactic in future if I pick and choose the kits it suits.

Looking a little overdone here, but much better in the next two.

I do like the effect of the post shading on the Hudson. Great work.

That tactic is going to get used on the Phantom when I finally get round to painting it, so wanted some practice. Just needs slightly more subtlety and bit more thinning of the paint and it will work well.

Nice job on both kits, I have a soft spot for hurricanes, and I would like to try a kit at some point in the future. I like the shading on the Hudson, and you appear to have carried on the shading over the decals?

Yeah, figured the decals on the real thing are painted on and closely conform to the surface, so the panel and rivet lines should still be emphasised over them.

great post shading on the HUdson, what did you use on the underside?
