Productions started in 1941 but ended in 1942. Around 800 Carro Armato M14/41 tanks were produced but they were obsolete by the time they arrived on the field of battle. They could not compete with the upgraded and newer British and American Lend-lease tanks that were sent against them.

The tank was cramped, hot and caught fire very easily. It had a crew of four and its protective armour ranged from 6 mm to a maximum of 42mm. It had a slow top road speed of 20 mph (32km/h). Cross country it was a lot slower. At these speeds it was more like a slow infantry support tank than a fast medium tank. It was armed with1 × 47 mm cannone da 47/32 AT gun 87 round and twin-Breda 7.9 mm (0.31 in) hull-mounted machine-guns, a coaxial one in the turret, plus a fourth AA light machine gun that could be mounted on an external, removable pintle on the turret’s roof. It had a fuel tank capacity of 42 gallons (190 Litres) which gave it an operational range of around 124 miles (200 km).
