The civil war in El Salvador began on Jan 10, 1981, when the newly formed Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) announced the start of its "general offensive." It was officially extended until Jan 16, 1992, when the so-called "Chapultepec Accords" were signed in Mexico City. It left 75,000 dead and 8,000 missing.
