LONG LIVE THE KING - TURN 4

Well.....let's just say there is a whole lot of maneuvering going on in both battles. I think we are around 8 turns in on both.

@Mad Mike and I have finally engaged I a firece battle among mounted knights on the French Left. We have both taken some hits but he has a slight advantage at present with the French routed at 4%.

@olaf and I appear to be making great show of parading all our mounted and foot all about the field. Troops on both sides may be too exhausted to fight by the time we engage.

Actually, I suspect a proper battle will commence soon.

Unfortunately, I will be mostly AFK until Sunday.

Gotta tell you guys -- I am fast losing interest in this campaign... didn't think it would take nearly a month to turn over FOG 2 battles -- this is too slow to maintain any momentum/enthusiasm ... this campaign is dying a slow death.

Edit: I think with next version of this, I'll enforce a 2 week battle turnaround like they do with Slitherine tournaments (doesn't seem to be a problem for players to manage it there)

Hey @Rico ....this is on me an I apologize! I don't mean to be holding things up. Last couple of weeks have had me too busy with work. My game against Mike is nearly done. I've got a ways to go with Olaf but will be back on a regular turn schedule next week. I can bow out after that if needed. Normally I can manage a pretty reasonable turn rate.

Very sorry for any frustrations I've caused for you or my opponents! Certainly not what I wanted.

Nah -- I'm killing it off -- actually, not going to run anymore turn-based campaigns that rely on waiting for slow play to catch up/finish to allow things to progress.

Tired of it always ending up with sitting around twiddling thumbs after initial quick, enthusiastic starts... we also don't have large enough FOG2 player base here at FGM to support proper campaigns/tourneys.

Future designs (in any game format) will be flexible with overlapping, ongoing turn dynamics (as one battle finishes it frees up moves and new battles -- while slower ones can grind on in meantime or are forced to ceasefire)

... or go with a tournament format -- but that's pretty much taken care of over at Slitherine.

That's also why I shelved my Byzantines/Arabs/Sassanids campaign -- besides some rules issues, it would be too prone to being shipwrecked/stranded in same way.

He volunteered to be Sgt at Arms and whip slow players until they bleed.

When all else fails
We can whip the horse's eyes
And make them sleep
And cry

Sorry man, the only horse I'm whipping is at Rico's Fall of the 3rd Reich Campaign.

Hey mtk did you ever get a chance to see the bridge wings at the memorial for the USS San Francisco at the Golden Gate rec area?

Needless to say...I am disappointed.
I don't think the slow players are the problem. We failed to set and enforce time restriction rules. So the injury is more self-inflicted than anything.
I know this was just a one-of-a-kind thing with JO. However, had we been admin aggressive the slow play would have been noted and someone else
could have been recruited to step in and keep the tourney action going.
Slow play is going to happen. But it can be made so as not to be a tournament hindrance.
@Gunner Yeah, actually I did, a long time ago. Sounds great, but kinda meh.

Problem is -- this is not a tourney where no-show or slow play can just be handled with byes and eliminations - battle results have effects on tourneys.
Second time we get hit by this prob in this one - that's why Olaf joined.

Unlike CM, players also can't hand off battles to other players.

I was stupidly assuming that like in my recent, earlier FOG2 campaigns, we could maintain overall FOG2 games at much faster clip than CM matches ... I was wrong.
