Just read "3.0 Engine Upgrade for CMBN and CMFI around the corner", on Battlefront website.

Some of you may want to put off starting new battles.

Full post:

Time for some spring summer cleaning! We've just updated a number of the existing Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy installer packages. With the 3.0 Engine Upgrade for CMBN and CMFI around the corner, it's time to clean up some legacy releases.

  • End of life for CMBN v1.x! All CMBN packages (PC and Mac OSX) have now been updated to already include the very latest v2.12 game version. This means that they include the 2.0 Engine Upgrade (and the latest v2.12 patch) as well. This update is only available to new customers purchasing from today on.
  • The Complete Edition ("big bundle") and the 2.0-Module bundle ("small bundle") now come with a simple one-installer package (both PC and Mac OSX). This update is available for new as well as existing customers. Everyone who purchased these, even in the past, can download the new installer packages immediately. No need to install individual packages, patches or upgrades, it's a one-click install including the Upgrade and the latest patch, as well.

Looking forward to the patches. I hope we see some news about modules for Red Thunder, Normandy, or Italy.

ND also hinted about a couple of surprises.. might this be "battle packs" for FI and BN containing, among other things, units with flame weapons. Looking forward to it!!

Did someone download the new installer already? I don't find any in the download area of BFC

If you didn't buy any "bundles" in the past but every game/module individually, then you're out of luck since the new, complete install packages don't apply to these customers. Quite a pity since these customers (I'm also one of them, bought everything separately as soon as it was released) would benefit the most from such a complete install package.

Hang on one darn minute.
the engine upgrade doesn't apply to the games we already have?

Nope, you're mixing two different things. There will be a v3.0 upgrade, which will bring CMBN and CMFI to the same functionality level as CMRT.

Also, there are some new installer packages available for people who bought bundles (for example, the big bundle of CMBN + CW + MG + V2.0) which allows them to install these in "one go" instead of:

1. Install CMBN
2. Install CW
3. Install v1.11
4. Install v2.0
5. Install MG

There is only the convenience and ease of install to be gained from these new, complete install packages and ironically, it would benefit those customers most who can't have it .. people who bought all the above individually.

So no worries, you will still get the engine upgrade for CMBN & CMFI. :)

Thanks Mike!

It's always like that: The most loyal customers suffer the "Cinderella Syndrome" :(

@Blind Sniper Does it still not work with 8.1? I've put off updating windows because of this, but I thought they must have sorted 8.1 out by now!

I have CMBN 2.12 update + CW and it doesn't work properly, I opened a ticket but after give me a file that was unhelpful they never aswer me back.
In fact I have to say very poor cutomer service, I guess my ticket is still open (after months).

What sort of problems are you having? When you say BF "gave you a file", was that the one to run to clear out the previous installs information that stops you doing any more installs of the game? I've never had to do that myself fortunately, but I understand that it does usually work, if that is the problem you are having?

A frequent problem is the order of installing the various components: if they are not done in the correct sequence, things go wrong.

For example, I *think* it is the case that, if you buy and install the base CMBN game and then fully patch it to 2.12, and only AFTER that buy the CW module and install that, it may well not work ... the CW module needs (I think) to be installed in the order in which it was first released as the game was at the time, and any later patches (re)installed after that. Is it anything like that which could be causing the problem??

PhilM, when I launched the game, after the BF logo then it simply disappeared, no error message. Before 8.1 upgrade all was fine.
I opened the following ticket (YAK-514097 - 02/13/2014) and follow this installation procedure:

1- install the base game, Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy. This will typically
be v1.00 or v1.01.

2- (if available) install the Commonwealth Module. This will update your game
to v1.10.

3- install the CMBN v1.11 patch. You can find it at www.battlefront.com/patches.

4- install the CMBN 2.0 Upgrade, or the 2.0 Market Garden Bundle.

5- use your 2.0 Upgrade license key, or the 2.0 & Market Garden Bundle license
key to activate. This will activate the base game and Commonwealth (if
available), and Market Garden (if you installed the bundle).

5b- install the Market Garden module, unless you have installed the bundle
already in step 3.

5c- use the Market Garden license key to activate the Market Garden module,
unless you have activated it already in step 5.

6- if available, install the next Module.
6b- use your next module license key to activate.

7- Repeat 6 and 6b for all available modules.

8- if available, install the latest patch for CMBN. Usually, only one patch is required
to update all game components, including the base game and modules.

Note: It’s important to follow these steps and
patch as the last step! This will ensure
that your game and all modules are up
10 Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy
to date; otherwise you may unintentionally
downgrade your game to an older
version by installing an older module.

NO problem to do it.

About file, yes it was an installation cleaner.

Then I noticed the Helpdesk is migrated to new platform and my ticket got lost.

I know CM BN wasn't tested for Win 8.1 (it was impossible) but after this kind of support I prefer don't buy any old game anymore.
Surely I have been unlucky but still...

Btw, thanks for your support :)

Sounds a pain! I need to say here that I am a Mac user, and so not familiar with / used to Windows issues with CMx2 ... but I do recall seeing threads on the BF tech support forums (i.e. the "self help" parts, not the actual BF help desk ticket system) on Win 8.1 issues ... have you seen this thread (link below)?

Windows 8.1 update problems

If BF supplied you the "cleaner" file, I presume that they think you need to reinstall the game components?

Have you done the reinstall and it still doesn't work?

Yes, I checked several threads before open the helpdesk ticket.

Yes, I reinstalled all stuff more times.

Have you done the reinstall and it still doesn't work?

Yup.

I just noticed they release a 3.0 upgrade but they want other money...I will be happy with RT for a while. :)
I will wait Christmas sales...
