I would appreciate any thoughts or input on this.

I was thinking of starting another tournament sometime in the near future and wanted to come up with a different situation or type of scenario that most people would not have played before.

I thought about when I play a QB one of the first thing I do when choosing my troops is set the Experience, Motivation, etc. from “Typical” to my usual “Normal” or “Veteran” status tweaking fitness and leadership with what extra points I may have at the end.

I wondered what “Typical” actually meant and does the type of unit change the results and/or the month and year.
For example, in CMBN does “Typical” infantry units differ from June to September of ’44?
Or from CMBN to CMFI?

How often do people play with Elite troops that are Fanatical or have to deal with Unfit Conscripts?

A quick check shows the “Typical” parameters do change quite drastically from the types of units such as infantry to paratroops.
(Boy, does it.)

Perhaps a “Typical Tournament” where players choose their forces using all Typical parameters would be unique.
It would be similar in format to the Fire & Rubble Tournament where each player plays two scenarios at a time, one German and one Allied on the same map.
I think two or three rounds of 30 minute Small or maybe Tiny scenarios just to try and finish by the end of the year.

Not sure which game to play.
Probably CMBN or CMFB.
Ideally CMFI has the widest time span, from ‘43 to ‘45 but I would be fine with which ever we could get at least 10 people on board.

What do you think?

maybe carve out a very limited number of units that can be made crack..... again on a very limited basis...... every organization military or private usually has a stand out leader somewhere who makes those around him better even if he is not in a leadership position officially

I prefer to be more in control of my units quality. Nice to have the ability to tweak to use all 100% of points. Also dont like the randomness of not being able to decide stats for key important units like tanks or zooka teams etc.

I was thinking maybe have a player make his Typical picks and send me a screenshot of the OOB.
Using the screenshot I will create a scenario using that players OOB.
If there are any extra points I would contact that player and ask if he would like to upgrade units or, if enough points, purchase a support team.
This would use up all available points.

That's pretty much how I play all QB - set the selector to Typical and buy my forces. At the end I'll bump up a few squads stats to finish off the final points but mostly I play with Typical settings all the time.

From my observation, "Typical" quality units, for most formations, are on average Regular Experience, 0 Leadership, 0 Motivation modifier. All three can vary at random by +/- one level.
For paratroopers, German SS and possibly other units, "Typical" is Veteran Experience, +1 Leadership, High Motivation. Again, all three can vary by +/- one level.
I have had fun playing QBs with the "Typical" rule: I think that the behavior of the troops and the outcome of the battle tend to be more realistic, because at some point your men will break and stop fighting effectively. If your opponent has managed to keep losses low and morale high, he wins. It is also possible that you just knock each other out and agree on a ceasefire.
Without this rule, players tend to raise troop quality, because it pays off. Your troops will remain effective no matter what and the battle turns into an elimination match - the last man standing wins. I like playing either way, I just avoid the extremes (large number of Elite or Fanatic units)
Just my input. Have fun with the tourney :)
