Yeah, mind you the US Army and Navy brass of the time were mostly anti-airpower because they wanted government cash to be spent on other things instead of planes, so they rigged the tests to make aircraft look bad.
But Army flyer Billy Mitchell raised hell about their incompetence and got court-martialled; it was covered by the Gary Cooper film "The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell"
And "Fat Man", the destroyer of Nagasaki 3 days later was also detonated at 1,800 feet, it was more powerful than Little Boy at equivalent to 20,000 tons of TNT
