The video description:
"A French reporter was filming US soldiers patrolling around an Afghan village when one of them walked on a mine and lost both legs in front of him. The sergeant survived, they managed to save his right arm but he lost his legs."

That is really unfortunate. My prayers go out to him and his family and also my hopes for his speedy recovery and adjustment to his injuries. May he overcome. And may his squad avenge him.

Was the journalist vetted?Kind of strange to be at the exact spot, zoom on the soldiers face seconds before the blast and be close enough to get a good camera shot but far enough not to get injured by the mine/ied.Also his reaction time after the blast is really sthing as 14 seconds after the blast he is filming again.

WIth so many cameras on field, i don't think it's staged. Only thing it could be staged is event itself.
About his reaction time...pro photographers do not have problems to shoot 1 second after event :)

The saddest thing is that it could well be the poor guy stepped on a mine paid for by an allied country...

I truly hope things work out for the best for him and his family.

I could be wrong, but the vid looks like a phoney fake to me..

I would ask that you do not post stuff like this. I knew two soldiers from my unit that lost their legs from IEDs. 1 died. I cannot stop you from posting this kind of thing, but I ask you all to have some respect.

We can find TONS of video that depicts this kind of horror.

We all know it happens, but there is no need to show it here. If you like to view this, then that is up to you, but to post it here simply for comment or for your own satisfaction rubs me the wrong way.

Granted, I do not have to view the post, but it really disturbs me and if I dwell on it too long, I tend to get angry. PLEASE, refrain from posting vivid videos of ANY soldiers getting wounded or killed.

A historical picture of something depicting the aftermath of war is kind of acceptable to me, but a live shot of it happening is too much in my opinion.

I find it strange that you have not said anything to the numerous AH64 Apache kills shown on this site.

Its obviously horrible when you see it happening to your own.

We cant very well say dont post Americans getting injured yet show Taliban and Afghan civilians getting taken apart by hellfire.

In future just dont look at the thread.

It could just have been a casevac training exercise in a safe area well behind the front line.
The sgt could have told the camera crew- "Stay focussed on me because I'm going to deliberately step on a small harmless charge near the corner of that house."
Early in the vid the sgt actually seems to be feeling for the buried charge with his foot to set it off.
Maybe the whole platoon had been told it was going to happen and were also in on it.
Like I said, I could be wrong, I'm doing net searches for official confirmation and will post here if I find anything.

PS- a fake vid that fooled a lot of people was a guy getting sucked through a jet engine and spat out the tailpipe, but surviving with just a few scratches, so if people will believe that they'll believe anything,..;)

I hope your right POS but unfortunately I think it is genuine. I know that the entire 101st is deployed to Afganistan along the Eastern border and I also know that they have been taking a hell of a lot of casualties. But they have been put into the toughest areas in that part of the country so obviously they are in harms way.

With all the respect towards the French, but as far as i know there were cases that french journalists had contacts with the Taliban, they even interviewed them after an ambush against french soldiers that cost them 10 KIA and numerous WIA.A magazine even had a cover with a Taliban dressed with French issued uniform and equipment. Also that was a joint patrol as ANA soldiers were showed in the video.
As for the reaction time of the journalist even if he is a pro his normal reaction, dictate also by his training, was to get out of the killing zone(as normally after this kind of attacks another one with small arms fire or and RPGs is taking place) and not to continue filming.

Found a video of the whole news story from which the clip is taken. Whole thing is in French naturally.
