I am sure this must be making international news. The flooding in Australia has been rated the worst flood in 100 years. Flood waters have reached 5.5 m high, as tall as the roof on two story buildings.

lets hope the waters recede shortly.

I have friends all over the Queensland area and they tell me that a city called Toowoomba which is 2500 feet above sea level was completely flooded, buildings under water, unreal.

Aussie Floods

Yes have just seen pictures of Brisbane on french TV news, it's bloody frightening for a town of 2 million people. They the peak is not there yet... Who said there was no climate change?

We have some family in Brisbane, fortunately they live on a hill. The damage is epic....towns like Toowomba, Ipswich and Grantham are devastated. There are residential suburbs with water up to the roofs of two storey dwellings. Fortunately little loss of life as yet...which is of cold comfort to the unfortunate ones....might end up a hundred or more.

Truly devestating. I have been watching this story on the news.

This is the biggest flooding in Australian recorded history. My wife is from Queensland, and Brisbane is where we met, got married, and lived for 10 years before moving back to my hometown of Tamworth in N.S.W. We have a lot of family and friends caught and cut off in these floods. Luckily no deaths in our group of family or friends. So long as we have each other and a few beers, "she'll be right mate." The area flooded in Queensland is bigger than France, Germany, and Great Britain combined, and that's not including the large areas in N.S.W. that are flooded and not making the news overseas. Things are going to be a bit tough for the next few months or years but we'll be right cause, we'll stick together.

Yes it is major item in Holland as well, with cameracrews, interviews with (former) Dutch etc at the spot.

I was in Oueensland in 2002 more to the north (Cairns, Port Douglas) and the guide told us there was way to little rain the last years. He was afraid the old Daintree rainforest wouldn't survive...

Yep, those floods look hectic -- that's one of the predictions of climate change, more extreme weather phenomena -- biger storms, heavier rainfall, more drought in dry areas, hotter summers, colder winters -- also seeing it here in South Africa... insane ammount of summer rains here in Johannesburg area with thunder storms seemingly getting more and more violent... meanwhile Cape Town area's drying out a a rapid pace with bush fires getting worse. Definitely something on the cards climate wise.

Did you guys also see what happened in Brasil? 200+ dead... Coming years don't look good...

Brasil tonight are up to 600+ dead and certainly a lot more as rescue only start reaching some areas and rain goes on...

The Brazilian experience , with fathers digging their dead children out of the mudslides is heart-wrenching. Man it has been a bad last twelve months for natural disasters.

Unfortunately pictures we will see more and more as we keep on playing around with our old mother Earth...
