Off again today for a short break in the caravan, to a little village called Awre near the top of the Severn Estuary.

Arrived at 2 pm.
Had to tuck my elbows and everything else in after meeting a large tractor and trailer coming the other way on the brow of a hill on the small lane that leads to the site but we got by ok.
What a lovely site this is, pitches are very big, it’s immaculate and the toilet block is pristine.

The hose connected to the water supply split a few mins after turning the supply on but I cut it back and reconnected it and all is fine now.

Have added just a few snaps of the caravan and car on the pitch and there will be more to come over the next six days - click the link to view them…

This should give you an idea….

Dear Steve, I hope that if one day I travel to your country (which I find very, very difficult, almost impossible I would say) you will take me to see those magnificent places in your trailer.
Dreaming costs nothing, they say.:cautious:

Looks great mate... Im just back from a weeks stay in a luxury static on Embo beach in Sutherland... was lovely. Even got a bit of fishing done but didn't get a thing... drats.
Don’t do fishing myself but ….

So much to see in the UK Louis, you can’t go far without finding something interesting to see ( same goes for mainland Europe too and I have been lucky to see a lot of it as my dad was in the army and we travelled extensively when I was growing up… guess that’s where my wanderlust comes from).

Just uploaded about 30 more photos from our little trip out today- we went to Symonds Yat East on the banks of the river Wye.
The word picturesque was introduced into the English language by this gentleman whilst travelling along the river Wye….

Thanks Steve for posting these.

One of the things I enjoy about the FGM is being able to tour the world from my study. :)

So much to see if we can only take the time but for most folk that doesn’t happen- everywhere I have lived I have wanted to explore…. Guess that comes from having a dad in the army and spending my formative years moving every 3 yrs and visiting lots of different places and countries whilst doing so.

Having also ridden at least 150k miles on bikes, mostly beemers also helps.

Been out and about again today, dodging the showers, visiting Lydney Harbour before nipping into Chepstow for a looksee - we have been here before so didn’t bother going in the castle again.
Managed to take a few more photos and a video (at Lydney Harbour which showed the weather coming in) which have been added to the gallery.
Now sat outside the caravan and just heard thunder.

Having a quiet day tomorrow and only planning to go out for lunch at the White Hart at Newnham.

Hi Louis,
The lunch was ham salad baguette (delicious ham), and the breakfast was granola ( oatmeal , greek yogurt and berries) and toasted fruit bread.

Off to lunch today at The White Hart in Newnham.

Just uploaded a video of the current weather

Out and about today and added some more snaps, just got back to the site almost empty ( one caravan and one tent left apart from us).

Weather has behaved itself today too.

Final day of our break today and been out again:

Back at the site now.
Going home tomorrow, we have had a lovely time despite the summer weather .
Places we have visited have been:
Chepstow
Ruardean
Coleford
Lydney including the harbour
Newnham
Ross on Wye
Caravan shop
Clevedon( N Somerset over the estuary on the M48)
Symonds Yat East
….. and toilets at all of the above…..
The ploughmans baguette at Clevedon was particularly delicious , as was a ham salad baguette at Symonds Yat…. Best ham I have tasted for a long time.

The sheep on the farm were these….

That will be it for this year’s adventures with Doris the caravan but we’ll be back out exploring again next year.

Back home now, arrived to find the downstairs toilet leaking….. welcome home Steve

We got back just after noon and have now unpacked the caravan - lovely break, really nice site and lots to see and do in the area.
Got back to discover that the downstairs toilet was leaking in 2 places
The overflow pipe where it’s connected to the cistern, and also the flange at the back of the toilet itself.
Called a plumber out through our contract with British Gas and it’s sorted.
He has done away with the need for an external overflow pipe by fitting a new type of syphon system that incorporates an overflow pipe which feeds the water back into the toilet- how neat is that!!
So now I need to either block the overflow pipe to stop insects etc getting in or remove it and block the hole.
