Good review ... sounds like an interesting book -- will add it to my list.
Yeah, I wish the author had made more of the interviews and didn't just tell their stories... some of the stories are like... what the hell.... 15-year-old girls being taught how to use panzerfausts in Berlin to stop the Russians and the systematic raping of the BDM (League of German Women) girls. After the Nuremberg rally in 1936 approximately 900 returned to their homes pregnant! It is properly disturbing to read as it goes on about sexual assaults at Auschwitz and whatnot. I do think the author made them especially crude, as I honestly can't imagine elderly Germans recollecting the 30's and 40's being so vulgar.
