Can anyone give me a recommendation?

I need a recommendation for a good operational level World War 2 game; specifically interested in the Eastern Front or the entire European Theater.

I would ideally like it to be divisional level. Turn based or real time. Anyone have any experience playing such titles?

For Eastern Front I would recommend either:

- Unity of Command + Red Turn Add-on + Black-Turn Add-on (easy gameplay, yet challenging - sometimes very)
- War in the East, if you want to go into "Full Grog Mode"

For Western Front, I would actually recommend a small title from Matrix, called "Piercing Fortress Europe", which is about the Italian Theatre of Operations.
It is quite austere looking, but again, very good gameplay with lot's of depth.

Especially with Unity of Command and Piercing Fortress Europe, there is a strong emphasis placed on logistics and supply, which makes them better representations of operational problems than a "simpler" Panzer General / Panzer Corps type of game.

I also still dabble in it ... some interesting battles in Black Turn.

We could -- remember that there's not many workable H2H scenarios though?

True, it's only a handful of scenarios and there are three more for download at the UoC website under "Community Scenarios":

The "Turn of the Tide" scenario looks really massive, any interest in playing something so huge?

I'll have a go at it -- maybe start it sometime today -- will have to do refresher on how to play Unity of Command H2H :D
 
Thanks fellows! I was looking at war in the east. Does anyone play it and can give a recommendation. It is a lot of money for something without a demo ........

I'm quite interested in getting my hands on War in the East, looks really good. Found this excellent AAR: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3183226/1
It's 60+ pages long but well worth the read through.
 
I bought war in the east and it is everything I was looking for!
