Can engineers/pioniers blow bridges in CMx2?

Quick answer: No! Battefronts explanation is that such a task is not within the scope of CM battles....

@Strachwitz And for once I agree with Battlefront, I mean its not like they have covered any important campaigns where bridges play a pivotal role like maybe in the Italian Campaign where such terrain... Oh hang on - no well not Italy then that was a bad example, so Europe I mean Market Garden - its not as if.... hmn maybe not then...

Actually on a similar note - I am reading September Hope and enjoying the descriptions of the US airborne using bazookas to gain entry to houses - now that would be another good feature - rather than just the rarer engineer with satchel charge...

@ Richtig : Once I fired some Schreck-rounds against a wall. IIRC it took 4 shots to open a gap. Are you sure about the same effect against houses?
I really miss the CMx1-pioneers who were able to attack every point of the map with demo charges...:(

@Mehlsack No I am sure you are right, I just think from the description it doesn't take so much effort to make a hole - to use the schreck example - thats an 88mm round? 4 shots to make a hole? Its only a few bricks?

Just my thoughts I can't corroborate or justify, I just think the effect in the game is not quite right...

For me just like the satchel charge, 1 good shot would give a hole - not as big as the satchel charge - but enough to gain entry (maybe with some help from the squad pulling bricks... To much I know to easily simulate - expanding on an idea tho - its the same with rounds (in my opinion) exploding in trees - but the other way - they are trees - if the round is ap it isn't join to stop at the tree - it just keeps going, and i don't think HE should be as effected as it appears to be...

@Mehlsack ok I am stopping now - its lovely to talk to someone about the mechanics of the game, but I have so many issues with the game its best not to get me started and in no time at all the BF police will be around - so thank you for the discussion - hopefully one day more things get resolved to make this game even better...

Wow Richtig, you sure do have it in for BF.

@Nathangun I think the relevant part of my quote was don't get me started - :).

But since you asked - I have nothing against them - tho it would help if they were more honest about the product and treating people who buy their game better. I don't think its a huge ask.

I am struggling with Europa by the way - I'm worse at that than i am at Combat Mission! Nice game tho - I will devote some time to it at some point and try to learn the mechanics.

I admit I'm commenting from a position of ignorance: of both the RL effect of bazooka-type weapons in this case (i.e. against walls, etc) AND of how CM models them. But ...

Given that man-launched AT weapons have (compared with equivalently large calibre guns) a very low projectile muzzle velocity (to enable them to be man-launched in the first place), their tank-killing properties rely on the shaped-charge characteristics of the warhead? Without a large explosive effect, they punch a relatively small hole through the armour and fill the tank with a stream of ultra hot gas, molten metal and metal splinters ... not good for the crew inside!

But they may have a lesser / different effect against e.g. a brick wall? And even if the effect is to penetrate the wall - and I wouldn't want to be standing on the other side of it to find out! - it will presumably make a hole no bigger than the calibre of the round, and possibly a lot smaller ... and with not much HE effect???

So perhaps zooks and fausts aren't the best things to use to demolish walls?

All conjecture on my part ... just a thought.

I think you may be surprised @PhilM like you I have no real experience, but in my comments I am quoting veterans first hand knowledge- they used the bazookas to gain access to buildings- I think I added they may have needed to do some hand work pulling at bricks - I don't know- regardless it was obviously more practical than the in game simulation.
