Hey guys,
I recently joined your rank to play PBEM games for Combat Mission. But that wasn't the only reason. For about a year now I dream about the possibility to really have some kind of roleplaying experience with Combat Mission. The campaign mode already provides a way to bring your units to the next battle. But I wanted more. I wanted to share this experience with all other CM lovers out there. That's why I started a project, among the whole load of my other projects, to achieve this.
What you're know about read is a rough draft about how I imagine this operational layer webapp in your browser will work out.
What is CM: Division?
CM: Divisions will bring the management of a whole division at your hands. You start of to create your alter-ego, an leading officer for either the allied or axis side. Done that you're assigned a division whichs efficienty you raise by leading them to the front or letting them exercise on bootcamps. Many more aspects will arise like making great speeches before battle to actually raise the "morale" attribute for the combat or ordering your men to hit the dirt for 24/7 to raise their "fitness" level. When leading your men into combat - you fight among other players in one of the two modes CM: Division will offer. Strategic movement of your division is made through the battle map. When encountering enemy forces you will be given a predefined scenario file to start a PBEM Battle via CMHelper. This scenario file choses which landscape you fight on depending on your positions on the map. Also the kind of troops you actually have on the field will be determined by CM: Division and brought into the scenario.
Game modes
There are two game modes for CM: Divisions.
H2H Battlestripe
Battlestripes are the section you and your bataillon gets assigned to. It has strategic borders which are the map boundaries. On this battle stripe you have specific key objects like towns and bridges or heights. You will battle your H2H opponents for those key positions. As you are the bataillon leader, in this mode you can order all divisions belonging to you.
Grand Campaign
The grand campaign is the equivalent to the actual campaigns we have in the forum. What I've wished is that those awesome guys who setup those campaign have a better time managing this and can more focus on playing the campaign themselves than mostly maintaining it. The campaign has a player hierarchy. As mentioned above you're able to create a character which is the leader of a division. This division is led by a battailon and so on. The bataillon commanders will be also players - for the start these will be those guys who have some long year experience in these forums.
ARR
What I'd love to see is that there would be some kind of real After-Action Report mechanic. Like having to really write the outcome of the battle and what units you've encountered. This would be first hand intel about what enemy division have in their ranks like tank types etc. Also it would be awesome if somebody adds screenshots and these will be added as black-white pictures to the report document.
If you'd like to participate to the project, this is the project management platform we're using: https://xetra11-portfolio.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issues?q=#cm-divisions-game
There you also can see what state the project is in.
PLEASE post suggestions and questions!
