Have any of you guys created a system where you can fight a series of battles or a campaign with the same core unit? ie say i wanted to simulate fighting with a Stug company on the eastern front in CMRT or an infantry battalion in CMFI /CMFB etc. How would you implement that in the CM series?

The other thing i'd like for my regular pbem opponents is some kind of mutual campaign system, where depending on success/defeat it affects the follow on battle. Bit like the grander scale campaigns on here like Op Konrad but smaller scale/more generic for QB's. ie make a succesful river crossing - get to attack the next objective etc. or do a succesful recon/probe battle you get to do a full assault as follow on.

I ran something like this using CMRT a while back called "Cross of Iron"... a series of very winnable "narrative" battles were players led a small German Kampfgruppe based on an armoured PzGr Company and attached armour and support elements... casualties were carried over from one scenario to the next. (I think 6 players took part)

As far as I remember, myself and another player played the Russians with pre-set reactions and set ups.

Also, if a player's Kampfgruppe commander character got KIA or WIA ... he got eliminated and another player could take over his unit.

It was fun, but a LOT of work.

ah was hoping you guys had developed some special excell sheet etc. :( Do any of you use a bigger campaign system to generate battles/campaigns like the John TIller campaign series? Its crazy that after all these years of CM, BFC havent developed a dynamic campaign system for the various CM fronts, nor the fact that you cant multiplay their provided campaigns. As great as CM is, its a massive missing element in my opinion.

That's been the holy grail for years.

There's a lot, I mean A LOT of work doing a grand campaign involving a couple of divisions believe me I've tried, it will need at least two to three GM's.
The best campaign I was involved in had several GM's, it was called CMMC 2 (Combat Mission Meta Campaign 2).

Think of a campaign you'd like to play and draw up a campaign map, then create the O.O.B of the units in the CM editor, then create all the CM maps where all the battles will likely take place, make them big so you can cut them down to the size if needed. That's the work you need to do before you get to start turn one.

Once the campaign starts, players will complain about the rules, other players will lose interest and the campaign will drag on as players will be slow with their battles.

Amen, brother @Nathangun

no i wasnt looking to create any big meta campaign with multiple participants (nice as they are), i'm more after something i can fight single player or against a regular PBEM opponent, but gives more depth and meaning to the individual qb battles and results.

I invented the counter insurgency campaign for that kind of thing.
Link should be in my signature.

If you don't mind going old school with CMAK, I very much recommend the Sie Kommen!-scenario pack.

Its so basic and simple that it's pretty much not even necessary. It's a great tool. No bullshit
