CMBB and WINDOWS 7

I have Windows 7 on my laptop and after some tinkering by my wife (the IT professional in the family) it works fine. She had to use the Vista Patch from Battlefront to get it to work.

I had Win7 for a while (Home Premium edition). I couldn't get it to work so I am back on XP where CM life is good.

I did forget to mention that my wife loaded the professional version of Win7 on the laptop. I have heard that CM does not work with Home editions.

I just bought a new computer with windows 7 Home Premium edition and all three CM games run fine. No tinkering needed.

I would have to say it is about the graphics. CMBB and CMBO run fine on my Vista laptop. However, CMAK would glitch, giving me a video/graphics error, that would prevent viewing the force pick screens, and sometimes a lower bit level on the graphics. I downloaded the upgarded CMAK and it worked better, but it wasn't fixed. I finally ran a self-diagnostic on the graphics software, and found a newer version was available, online. I (automatically) downloaded and installed and have had no problems since.

As far as I know, Windows 7 Home hasn't got a so-called "Win XP Compatibility Mode" - which Windows 7 Professional apparently has. Of course, Win 7 Pro is more expensive than the Home Edition...

Which doesn't change the fact that all old XP fans are gonna be mightly ****ed because they HAVE to buy Win7 Pro (sooner or later - I'lls tick with XP as long as I can!) - I certainly know I am...

The laptop I currently use is really my wife's. I plan on buying a new one shortly and I'm going to stick with XP on mine. I'm a firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Im happy with Windows 7. :)

Did they give you a review copy, too? :tongue1: I don't say Win7 is bad, I jsut think it's way too early to switch to a new OS - I rather wait for all developers and hardware manufacturers to have the right software at hand and Makrosaft to have ironed out all bugs 'n glitches and THEN we can talk.
