CMSF Purchase????

I enjoy playing CMBN but was previously not fond of the game mechanics in CMSF Demo. Tried it a few years ago. Perhaps I got defeated too easily.

I'd like to get some experience with modern equipment (NOT WW2) and think that CMSF could be a good platform for some tactical exercise with more up to date troops and weapons.

Can anyone suggest what software I should purchase? Thought I may need all of the below.
-CMSF?
-Marines + Brit + Nato Bundle?
-and v1.21 Retail upgrade (Paradox)?

Also can anyone recommend:
1) Good or great references for company or platoon tactics?
2) Good company and/or platoon scenarios?

While CMSF is not as robust as CMBN or CMFI, it is a great game and gives you plenty of CMx2 feel with modern equipment. I enjoyed - and still enjoy - the series quite a bit.

As far as what to buy, I recommend buying CMSF and all three modules. Each is progressively harder and are required for some of the better user-created scenarios and campaigns available. I particularly enjoyed the Marines and British modules.

The Paradox upgrade is not applicable to you as it was created for a flavor of the game released by Paradox.
