Thanks Gunner. all I knew was the master sergeant had enough stripes, but no star. Nice research work, thanks for the clarification.Looking it up, the USAF didn't change insignia's until April of '49.
Surprisingly they seem to have changed quite often.
When I was in, 3 stripes blue star = senior airman and 3 stripes white star = sergeant.
Seems now they don't have a rank of sergeant anymore and go right to staff sergeant.
