Hi There!

A Dutch player reporting.
I actually live at 10 km from Arnhem, and a little knowledge of (recent) history makes this area a very interesting place to live in.

It was tough to say goodbye to CMx1 after 10 years, but it turned out that I like CMx2 even better!

regards,
Marijn (Der Nashorn)

Welcome aboard!
PS Some pics of your hometown will be great, especially from the well known places of the Operation Market Garden.

Hey Marijn,

Weer een Nederlander erbij. En ook nog eens uit de omgeving. Ik kom uit Cuijk.
Speel je toevallig ook tabletop?

Maar,

Greetings and welcome ( for our international friends ;))

HA HA HA!!! I'm born in Kleve and my aunts, uncles and cousins are living there - their original dialect is very similar to Nederlands.

My grandmother from mother's side was Dutch and my Grand-Grandfather from father's side. So my mother is half Dutch, my father was 1/4 and
that makes me a 3/8 Dutchman - and I like it! ;) I'm a result of the "kleine grens verkeer" *gg!

LOL I live about 20km from Kleve. Sometimes we go shopping there.

:) LOL!

Maybe we will make an appointment some day and meet there for a beer or two - time will tell! ;)

Hi,

nee Tabletop is mij niet bekend eigenlijk...

For all other nationalities (except Shorker and possibly a few other border-cases.. no offence meant ;) )
I have never given it a thought of posting pictures of my surroundings actually.
BTW, Cuijk and Kleve are also not far from where the action was.
(Shorker, I have visited a very interesting mausoleum/cemetery in the Reichswald for fallen German soldiers...I am sure you know it)

Before I got children I still had time to walk through all the battlefields around Arnhem (as well as Normandy amongst others btw) with a book with ww2 maps under my arm. I even ended up in the asylum of Wolfheze.
Ah those happy days.....

Dat is jammer. Ik speel nog wel eens tabletop in het spelkwartier in Arnhem. (Steenstraat)

But same thing here. Before the kids were born I also walked the battlefields of Europe. Once the kids are older I'll take them along :) My wife even agreed to this.

So I'm a "border case" - HA HA HA!!! :D

My grandparents lived in Donsbrueggen, where the German cemetary is located and of course I also visited the British/Canadian Reichswald Cemetary. It's depressing to see all the graves.
I've visited the Hartenstein Museum in Arnhem in 2009 (65th anniversary of "Market Garden") - it's an absolutely recommendable museum! And this year in June I was in the Normandy too. ;)
It was one of the most interesting travels I've ever made because on the 5th and 6th of June there was a lot of activity and re-enactment going on. While driving to Utah Beach we came
to an American "road barrier" with a few guys dressed up in original U.S. military clothing and eqipment of WWII and for a short but intense moment it felt just like being sent through a time tunnel
right into 1944! That was so real - unbelievable! :)

:), Scheveningen jeah jeah, Dont trust those Dutchies Shorker, they still want their bycicles back ;-)

That is so true! I have a good story about this.

A buddy of mine is in the Dutch airforce and he works at Gilze-Rije airbase. A couple of years back there was a German Hercules that always landed there every few weeks. And the Dutch airforceguys always joked with the German Hercules crew. Asking them when we would get our bycicles back and stuff like that. So one time the German Hercules came again and flew very low over the landingstrip, opened the rear door and about 50 to 100 bikes fel out. After that the German crew landed and said: "there you go..." They were never joked around again ;)

typical Germans, cant take a good joke. :) funny story mate. :p:D I have a dutchie friend in Nijmegen who gives me a lot of stick, I am used to it. :)
