Early Alpha Footage of Black Sea

You beat me to the punch, Ithikial. I watched this last night. While it is really rough for obvious reasons, even the few new, untextured weapons get me excited.

HMMWVs? They are in the process of becoming extinct in the US military.

I hope that they don't nerf the Russians, I want this to be as true to life as they can make it.

IIRC part of the back story to Black Sea was that the DoD budget had been drastically cut, along with the defense budgets of the NATO member nations, due to ongoing financial troubles. In this situation, I can see where anything that was on hand would be pressed into service in an all out shooting match. They probably didn't have any money left to finish replacing the HMMWV fleet in this alternate (or is it?) reality.

I don't think you have to worry about the Russians being nerfed. Of the many issues I have with BFC, their potential to rewrite or distort reality isn't one of them.

I had to Google nerfed... LOL

The term "nerfing" comes from the online gaming world of Ultima Online.

At one point in the game, the developers reduced the power of swords in melee combat.

This resulted in players complaining that it was like they were hitting each other with nerf bats, not swords.

From then on, if ever something gets made less worth while than it had been originally, it is considered 'nerfed'
"Oh man, they reduced the dmg on the berserker class and now it's totally nerfed!"

"Damn, the Devs nerfed those axe's real good!"

Okay going completely off topic now. This is going back to my Uni degree and a unit I took called ‘Politics and the Internet.’ Basically there were a couple of weeks there about how different languages and communication forms organically come into being as new networks and systems develop. Ironically, in the case of the Internet they were developed to overcome traditional language barriers and limits of the communication through the technology at the time. A time before Google and broadband... how did we survive?

Another good gaming example raised at the time was Starcraft / Warcraft 2 / Command and Conquer craze in the 56k modem days. A time when real time communication and gaming headsets weren’t the norm. Players had to quickly type in the team chat to get their point across to team mates to started using keypads numbers to identify locations when passing along intel. So for example if you wanted to tell your team a Zerg opponent was building a base in the top left of the map you’d type “Zerg Base 7” rather than an essay of text. Now it doesn’t really matter as a South Korean who can give 400 commands a minute will always beat you. :p

Combat Mission is also the same, even today, as we have a language and lingo we all use as common practice that outsiders have no idea about at first. Question is did the CM community come up with ‘Pixeltruppen?’

Chris showcased some early UAV and precision artillery functionality this past weekend on his Twitch stream. Pretty sweet stuff:

Anyone planning to run a campaign for the upcoming Black Sea?

If so I would love to join. :D

Really hope they expand it a bit more than just a Ukraine based war down the line. The draw of modern war simulations is creating the 'what if' scenarios and having a wide variety of terrain and forces that you can intermix is key to making this happen.

This will come down to the modding community and I cant wait to see what they come up with.

I waiting for the digital edition as the postage of a physical copy doubles the price for me.

I often tell myself to stop buying the various CM games and modules as I only really play h2h and have so many more no doubt fantastic scenarios to play!

But of course within hours of the release I am downloading it. A lot cheaper than my grass habit at least ;)
