Scrabble was invented by an unemployed architect called Alfred Butts.

The funny thing is that Butts did not like dice games, because they all depended on luck, but on the other hand, he felt that games-skill, like chess, were too highbrow for the general public.
So he decided to invent a game that was half luck and half skill, and in late 1931 he had the initial idea for the Scrabble, which he called: Lexico.
