It has to be said that one of the main reasons the muslim world hates the west is because the west did nothing when Israel invaded Palestine and stole it from the Palestinians in the 1967 Six-Day war.
Furthermore, America has been supporting Israel with cash and weapons for many years.
So yeah, if I was a muslim i'd be p*ssed as hell too!

I think the U.S. has a foreign policy moral compass that requires it to come to the defense of any sovereign nation that asks for assistance to defend it from neighboring countries that want to wipe it from the face of the earth. Just sayin'.

Fair enough POS, I respect your views and accept that...... but in my personal humble opinion I don't think it would stop them and withdrawing within your own boarders is also not the way to go, its just asking for trouble.

Switzerland in the heart of Europe has been neutral through two world wars happily minding her own business, and as a result there are no Swiss war cemeteries, no bomb craters and no enemy tank tracks anywhere, nor as far as I know have there been any terrorist suicide bombings..

I didn't know anybody reviles and despises Switzerland. On the contrary, it's a haven of sanity in a crazy world..
For example only the other day on TV Robert Wagner and Pat Grant escaped from Colditz and staggered through the snow to the Swiss border. A grey-clad soldier emerged from the trees ahead of them and they thought he was German. "Are we in Switzerland?" one of them asked. "Yes" replied the soldier with a smile (he was Swiss) "you've been in Switzerland for the past two miles", and they were subsequently repatriated to Britain.

Problem is "what is minding your own business" ? And Belgium was neutral in WW1 and so were Holland and Belgium in WW2, what did that bring them ?

You younger guys have been brought up by teachers and the Establishment to believe no nation is an island in todays "global community", and that we must "play our part on the world's stage".
But I take Churchill's view- "In war, one has neither friends nor enemies, only interests", and for the life of me i can't see how the hell it's in our interest to be in Afghanistan apart from maybe a few barrels of oil when it's all over, but I'd rather have our troops safe home right now rather than have all the oil in the mideast.
I can't think of anything more painful than for parents to go meet their son home from the mideast........in a coffin.

As for Holland and Belgium, they just happened to be unluckily situated like speed bumps between Germany and Paris so no wonder they got steamrollered.
But Britain is an island ("Fortress Britannia") and not so easy to steamroller. Adolf tried and failed in "The Battle of the Great Iron Birds" in 1940, and nowadays there are US airbases here, plus of course we've been a nuclear power for 60 years so all in all we'd be a tough nut to crack in any future war..
We'll have independently targetting particle-beam phalanx. VWAP! Fry half a city with this puppy!......phased-plasma pulse-rifles......sonic electronic ballbreakers, knives...sharp sticks...
