Good news from Egypt

Just saw on the news that the Army officially announced that the people were legitimate in their protesting and that they would not shoot on them... Same scenario as Tunisia ?

So I guess that means the end for the President. 30 years is a good run.

Be interesting to see if the unrest spreads further throughout the area.

Since the Army is partially paid for by the US Government, they probably rec'd the msg that the USA would think about next payment depending on what would happen...

If it refrains them from shooting in the crowd, it's fine with me...

The main worry we should all have is who will take over, the door is now ajar for a more Islamic goverment. Also we might have to get a loan to fill our cars with fuel. The World stock excahnge will start to get nervous and push fuel prices up which will hurt us all. Seeing that in UK fuel cost £1.33 Lt (£6.00 a gallon)

My 125cc scooter only uses 2.7 liters for a 100km... Egyptian people also have the right to choose where they want to go. This islamic stuff has been used by all these dictators to justify their oppression and stealing all the money. I think it's the way they behaved which favored the islamic parties.

Yes they should have a choice, like most of that area all run by Dictators. But the Islamic problem is there, and dont forget that most of the Arab world does except Israel you can see the storm clouds of war slowly building.

I guess they also have the right to be Islamic if it is their choice. Who are we to decide what is good or not ? The clouds of war are on the region since 1948 anyway, and they are going to stay there for a while. If I was a Palestinian, I would moderately like that the UN decide to give my land to someone else. When you take this kind of decision, you can expect to have some problems ? It's been the same with all the artificially created countries (Yougoslavia was a good example, Belgium is not at war yet but you can't say they like each other...lol)

They can be Islamic, but its what the anti every thing Islam brings look at IRAN they provide arms and training for groups in Iraq and Afganistan. All I am saying it is best to welcome a change in Eygpt but lets watch wko takes over(it is best to prepare for war but live in peace then to live in peace and be be defeated). AS for the Palestinians , some of the Arab world does not want anything to do with them. This is the end of my disscusion on this sunject

look at IRAN they provide arms and training for groups in Iraq and Afganistan.

Western countries provide arms to everybody...lol For a long time the US has been providing arms and training to all dictators in South America... War is good for business... During the Irak/Iran war, same countries were providing weapons to both sides! So let's clean in front of our own door before giving lessons to the world.

Well, the expediency of propping up or making accomodations with despots and dictators during the Cold War and beyond for the sake of stability and security and cheap oil comes back to bite the west in arse over and over -- starting with the Shah in Iran.

Problem is that when the people finally have enough and rise up and topple the leaders, the fact that they are despotic regimes they have an automatic succession vacuum behind them -- and that together with the possibly ensuing chaos leaves space for radical forces to possibly take advantage of. Interesting point is that a bunch educated, underemployed youths mobilised by social media resorting to essentially peaceful mass action (the looters that always seem to come out of the woodwork in situations like this aside) have done what the Islamic Brotherhood has failed to do with violent means for over 20 years.

Agreed with Rico, these movements have started in the middle class educated people who are less sensible to islamic preaching. Of course there will be some chaos, but democracies always start with some chaos. Don't forget it took us centuries... It's the long term evolution which is interesting. These are also the first internet revolutions (specially in Tunisia, because Egypt was warned and tried to shut down everything) They couldn't have been so efficient without the social networks and internet videos to show what happened. Technology against dictators... this has gone worldwide as I saw a document where the hackers from Anonymous were providing pirated access to tunisian bloggers so they could keep posting.... I must say I had the same tears coming than the whole night I had been watching the Berlin wall falling, and Rostropovitch playing cello right in front... Great to live moments like these...:RpS_thumbsup:
