Half track hmg gunner keeps jumping out?

I have an issue where my squad is in a half track. I want to use the hmg for cover and suppression, but when I unload the halftrack, the gunner jumps out. Also, I have to unbutton the gunner but that exposes the entire squad. Then I have to split the team and send some back into the half track. Any way around this? Thank you.

Are you talking about allied half-tracks?
There was a thread on gunners recently, I'll try to find it. But, if I remember rightly, gunners will pop up and target even when buttoned so the rest of the squad remains under cover.
The gunner will stay if he's part of the crew when you send a loaded-up squad out but the crew will all bail if you use the dismount order.

Someone told me if I move to a location and order the squad to move, then the gunner and crew will not dismount. I was using the dismount command I think. But do some halftracks come without crew? Like you buy an armored platoon and when you move them off the halftrack, they all get out, including the driver and gunner, as part of the squad?

For example, in a game I rushed in my half track, dismounted and everyone got out. Then I had to split my squad, and put two soldiers back into the halftrack.

Right yeah so you can do some tricks with the pause command to keep your squads separate and have them stop combining. I dont remember the process exactly, but if you know the theory you can find a way to make it work. The theory is to split your squads and then to pause a half so they dont combine again.
You probably have a 2 man scout team for gunners.
Try this: Split a scout team off, mount the halftrack. Give the team a dismount order and then pause the team (Not at the order you just assigned but in the halftrack). This should work. If not, you can always intermix squads but thats a PITA.
As said there's a way to do it, I just forgot. @ChuckDyke is the person who made that post more than likely

Correct. I you give orders to the passenger icon then they will dismount and move off once the HT stops moving.

That is possible but not usual. HT typically are crewed. They either come with just a driver or a driver and a gunner. When you click on the HT itself you should see the crew listed.

The dismount command when issued to passengers means the passengers get out before the HT drives away. If you issue the dismount command to the HT itself it means for the crew to dismount. The fast majority of the time just giving the HT orders where you want it to go and then giving the passengers their orders from that location works just like you want.

I do not believe there is an example like this in the TO&E of the game. However if you did have a HT with no crew and you mounted a squad two of them would crew the vehicle and then later when you dismounted there would be no on left to crew the HT.

For example, in a game I rushed in my half track, dismounted and everyone got out. Then I had to split my squad, and put two soldiers back into the halftrack.
Yes, people frequently choose to do that for HT that only have a diver so you can have the support of the HT firepower.

I figured it out thank you! Yes you just move the vehicle and order the troops to move out of it at the end of the order. Some half tracks come with only a driver which sucks. Also, they are basically sniper magnets and anyone you put on the mg is likely to get shot up right away.

Yes, half-track gunners are easy targets and are apt to get rinsed pretty quickly by mgs and snipers. Best keep them well back and shoot n scoot.
