Helloooo SF

Think like we were taught to think in the Army "If you can be seen you can be hit, and if you are hit you are dead". Accuracy and lethality are greatly increased from WW2 and so are effective ranges.

You can forget about QB's in SF and Afghanistan if you are trying to cherry pick your forces. It will give you a QB of its own randomly chosen forces but from experience and listening to others it is garbage. Forces are almost never even close to being balanced. Others might of had better luck but I never seen it.

CMBN and CMSF are two different beasts. The UI and such are somewhat similar but very few game tips can be carried over from one to the other. Dave is dead on with his synopsis above. Very small chances of surviving first strikes especially playing the Red side. Even the campaigns are pretty easy. Set yourself a hard goal when playing as it makes them more enjoyable.

Being on the receiving end of an anti tank missile is not fun at all

Much more fun to be on the shooting end and enjoy the smoke plumes in the distance.

so there is no option to pick your own force...that's really disappointing

Your only option to pick your own force in the scenario editor. Allow your opponent to pick his force and decide if this is balanced before playing. Or have a third party setup a somewhat balanced QB for you. Yeah, sucks. Too bad they never worked on implementing the CMBN system backwards to SF and Afghanistan. I guess with SF2 on the horizon they just do not give two shits about the old man.

That is because CMSF was the first born of the CMx2 series. The testing ground for what is good, what is shit, what works what doesn't. They are now well beyond CMSF. Don't get me wrong, I still love it and play it but once CMSFx3 comes out, in the European setting, it will be a whole new ball game and better IMHO. At least that is how I read it from how far CMx2 in WW2 has come and what has been said in BF forums. Also, on a side note, I believe the future WW2 Russian Front modules in our current series are really going to be the most sophisticated of the modules and will set the standard for everything else.

I sure hope CM3 is better than SF! BF caught a lot of shit from their forums on all the bugs and such. I never really had any major problems with the game and liked as is (except the QB's of course). I do not agree with your statement on the QB system being how it is because it is the first born (yes, maybe of the CMx2 series---but do not forget about the CMx1 series pretty much laid everything in place).

The 'cherry pick' system already existed years ago in CMBO, CMBB, and CMAK. All first generation games. Why BF decided to shit can this system and go with whatever they came up with in SF is beyond me (rushed it out the door maybe)? A lot of games incorporated this system back then: Steel Panthers games, Close Combat games, etc... It could not have been that hard to assign a simple point value to the units as they did with the current system (Hell, Close Combat uses something like a simple 1-10 point system that works). Yeah, it might be a little more complicated with the modern equipment but at least they should have gave it a shot and let the files open to modding to allow others to adjust how they see fit. That way it was in there and no one could bitch and moan about this unit should cost more than that one, as they would have the power to change it as they seen fit. I am not a programmer and I am sure someone will point it out that BF did their best and programming this into the game would just take too much time and resources for the little team they have. Whatever, it was in the original flagship CMX1 series and worked well, so why ditch it???

Hopefully you are right about CM3. How do you think they are going to improve on this module to set the standard for everything else? I am just curious as to what you have heard. I know that flame weapons will probably be incorporated but what esle? Hopefully mounting tanks. That would be pretty cool.

Is there a release for the new SF, or is it just in the future?
