Hoo gets killed first ? squad leaders of course

Hoo Hoo

I remember threads from years ago both on BF forums and here stating how unnerving it was to see squad leaders among the first to fall in firefights, or getting blasted by artillery.

I've seen an entire flank of a battle jeopardized because an arty shell fell 100m away from an entire platoon, and who went down among the 30+ men in the vicinity? OF COURSE ! my officer !

Is it something that you have noticed as well?

In my battles it always seems to be the Light MG guy or the guy carrying the PzFaust or Schrek that catches it first ... quite annoying if they unavoidably have to dash across an open piece of ground to cover and the guy with the most important kit is left lying in the middle of the field KIA or WIA clutching the squad's most important piece of firepower.

Nowadays I'm genuinely surprised if I see the flashing icon only a rifleman died. It might just be that I notice my officer/LMG deaths more, but it does seem like those guys are more likely to go home early. Especially playing the Germans.

My observations have been similar to Rico's. It seems like my MG and RPG guys always get tagged first, especially the Jav dudes if you play a modern era title. So annoying seeing a squad dart between buildings and the only guy to get hit is carrying your Jav.

Unsure if there is a higher chance programmed into the game to reflect the opposing soldiers actively targeting the LMG/SMG holders or not. I mean if I was on the other end looking down the barrel I'd be trying to knock off the guy holding the MG42 over the K98 any day.

That would be ok if it's bullets ... it's often more like random shrapnel from mortars etc that also seem to usually take out the MG or PzFaust/Bazooka guy first too -- or just feels that way ;)

(...also heard theory that the guys carrying the heavier gear (MG's, tripods, zooks and fausts) ... are slower in taking cover or hitting the dirt -- hence more likely to get hit?)
