How do you guys go about selecting your force in CMBN/FI?

I was thinking about this earlier and I generally go with prebuilt battalions/companies. What forces do you look at when choosing your forces for pbem games?
 
I look at the map and if I need to attack or defend.

Attack:
Mobile force and little support like infantry guns, AT guns and MG but enough mech infantry and armor

Defence:
Loads of infantry forces packed with AT guns and mortar/MG support and some armor for mobile AT defence.

I usually will give my opponent a bit of an idea of the units I will be bringing in order to not have a weird makeup of forces or a skew in a force's power. For instance, I brought a Canadian Airborne Battalion in my pbem against Tux.
 
I always build my force as historicly posible.
