Just got this game and thought I'd post some screenies.

Ok Ive only played a very tiny bit of this but first impressions are not really that good.

To set up the joystick you need to have a degree in aeronautics. Clunky control system to say the least.

Also they have added a new thing... customizable windows you can set up in flight... looks good on paper but actually using it during the game is sluggy. The mouse pointer jumps about the screen horribly. Setting up the map and using it was so much easier in IL2 1946.

This game will be going back in the box until a lot of the problems are ironed out.

The graphics are nice but the handling of the planes feels all wrong and others have complained that after 6 years development Maddox has released a dud. Im sure they will get it right but just now I take no enjoyment from playing this game.

I was looking forward to this one, but I don't think my system will be good enough to run it at the moment. By the time I get a new rig, hopefully there will have been a couple of patches to sort out some of the things punters are complaining about at ubi forums.

What spec do you have Bootie to run the game?

From what I've read everywhere, I don't think I'm going to buy it for the moment and will stick to IL2 1946 for now. There is an issue with copy protection as mentioned on many forums ( many don't like Steam and there is another private DRM on top) no dynamic campaign either...

On very low your own plane is really bad quality. I took what looked like a cardboard Spitfire IIA into the air against a German bomber and despite graphics being very low this is the screenies I shot when I took him down.

My plane is all over the place though.... Its like a car with badly aligned wheels.... when I dont touch the stick I expect it to fly straight instead of rolling up and to the right..!!

Anyway... the pics.

Thanks for that. My spec isn't far from yours, but I've got an nvidia 8800GT, which is right at the edge of what ubi say are the minimum spec. So even if I got the game to run, I suspect my FPS would drop a lot when planes filled the skies. Apparently some people with uber set-ups are struggling to run it on medium settings! It sounds like it will need a few patches to sort out some of the issues, although Steam/DRM is here to stay I suspect.

Shame I was looking forward to this.

Real planes never fly straight !! I suppose like in IL2 1946 you have to use the trimming. Generally untrimmed planes go upwards and you need to compensate for the engine torque on most of them. (except the ones with 2 engines and contrarotative props like the P38.)

You can buy the russian version which is not edited by Ubisoft to get rid of Steam, but then you have to learn russian... lol

It's going on hard on the 1C forums... Think I'll stay away from this one !

"Yes a very interesting thread and some helpful insights into what really went on behind the walls at 1c/MG.... the sad fiasco and crazy debacle over COD's lack of creditable development...as most of us have alreday found out the hard way, this game is not only unfinished...its unfinished beyond belief and this ex employees disgruntled remarks only serve to highlight the total shambles, the lack of management and disorder within the Dev team....so much for the great Oleg maddox providing leadership and direction in important times and living up to his name as a well respected and capable guru in his field...in reality it looks like he's nothing more than a lowly deserter who left his post and the struggling/inadequate team to fumble on in the dark without him..

So at least 50% of the games contents are nothing more than crappy place-holders, temp insertions to hold the game together, no wonder it lacks so much finesse, the cheap awful sounds, the crappy AI, the dx9 basic shader routines everywhere like flickering ground shadows, the dx9 water, the laughable and rubbish clouds that swirl around worse than the FSX 2d sprites!, the lack of rain or any weather engine, the pseudo full screen mode that wont allow proper FSAA or even the use of 3rd party forced AA because they need true full screen modes to work!.....its a shame that this sort of thing happens in the modern world of games software...this game got neglected and messed about so much its shameful they even released it in such a state, shameful for ALL involved.....it obviously has HUGE potential still and already even after a few patches shows great promise....lets just hope Luthier can continue to sort this mess out!......no wonder Oleg maddox did a runner!....he boasts other jobs and other commitments...shows where his priorities must now reside i guess, shame becausde i cant help feeling if he led this development with 100% commitment and conviction it would of been awesome now!...and not in another 2-3 years!...
