Italians

Just curious on what everyone else's thoughts are on this subject: I believe it is necessary for the Italians to be augmented with German forces in CMFI to have decent success in combat. In the Troina Campaign (currently playing) you are augmented with a platoon on panzer 3s. Also in some of the battles such as The Niscemi Highway you are given a healthy amount of Luftwafe and armor to accomplish the task. In this case I think it to be extremely difficult, almost impossible to be victorious if you didn't have these forces. If you have never played Niscemi Highway it is very difficult as the axis but very rewarding if you succeed. Thoughts?

I tend to agree. The German forces seem to give the necessary backbone and firepower to make up for the weaknesses of the Italian forces.

The structure of the Italian forces is so unique that I want to believe that we are all using them wrong...that there is some better way to deploy and fight with the Italians. But, if there is, I haven't found it.

Now I really want to play as the Italians (Still exploring my PBeM games and LOTS of scenarios and campaigns in CMBN still to play) because of their "interesting" characteristics.

One thing I play wargames for is to explore the variety of strategies, tactics etc commanders were forced to employ in real war - rather than carefully balanced games :D

Why yes i can be contrary and a glutton for punishment, how did you guess? :kilroy:

I love playing as the Italians but, they're difficult to achieve wins with. Unfortunately if you play a QB you can't supplement them with German forces.

I've had some success with the Italians and manged to get a H2H win on the Lemon Hill scenario which is a tough one for the Italians. Ive been playing RT a lot recently and I now play the Italians with the Soviet doctrine.

I really enjoy playing them. That's an interesting way of playing them. I realize that once their leaders die they run away very easily.
