Hey, if Australia and NZ ever break away from Britain to become Republics, their servicemen won't be able to win our VC any more ha ha!
Not only that, but if they become Republics and a 'Western Pacific War' breaks out, Britain won't have to send troops, planes and ships to help them, ha ha again!
Reminder- Oz and NZ are not nuclear powers but Britain is, we got Trident nukes, hydrogen bombs, sharp sticks etc...
I mean, suppose in future years a 'Western Pacific Hitler' arises (chinese maybe) who unites all the nations of the western pacific rim including Japan, Nam, Philippines, Indonesia etc, and they decide to invade Oz and NZ, how long would Oz/NZ last, 5 minutes, 10 minutes?
They're two of the most geographically-isolated countries on earth and therefore need all the friends they can get, so breaking ties with Britain is definitely not a good idea!
Rhodesia did that years ago, declaring independence from Britain and renaming itself 'Zimbabwe', and within 5 minutes the white government had been overthrown and Zimbabwe began declining and has ended up being ruled by tyrant Mugabe, whose bully-boys are going round killing white farmers.
Some Brits have been saying "let's send Brit troops to topple Mugabe", but the majority (including the Brit government) say "why should we? It's none of our business, Zimbabwe is nothing to do with us any more so it's not in our interest to get involved"
