Everyone gather round.

Some chit chat going on behind the scenes and Bootie and I want to know your thoughts about the Operation Overlord Campaign (OOC) and should it continue or are we after a bit of a fresh start.

++++OOC players - If you're playing your battles for this KEEP PLAYING!++++

It's been three years since it started and the glorious German Reich have managed to hold most of Normandy, dishing out defeat after defeat to the invaders on every occasion our forces meet in battle. The Allies can't break through our lines and frankly it's becoming embarrassing... <cough> sorry... slight bit of bias got in there. :D

In all seriousness though, we're just wondering what the club membership wants to see in this respect? Do we want to press on or wrap it up and move onto a fresh 'flagship campaign' involving most of the membership? Particularly want to hear from the guys on both sides of the OOC?

If we do move on with another flagship campaign where are we going next?

A few tips to guide your thinking...
- From the 'FGM Game Ownership Census,' CMBS ownership is surprisingly low so going into the modern era at this point probably won't grab the numbers of players required to make it worthwhile.
- If we press on with the OOC, at the current speed we get campaign turns done and dusted we'll liberate Paris in about... 18 years time.

Note: We're not interfering with other members campaigns like RISK etc. :)

I didn't know that there was a 'FGM ownership census'. I do own CMBS FWIW.

Then the goal of the OOC is to liberate London, not Paris. :D

@mTk - I'll take your paras any time vs the stuff we are handed out. :)

Then I thought there was already a defined end date (forgot which) because we had that discussion already. As things are it is pretty clear that it will end with a draw.
But the battles are good and it will be interesting to see how it ends up vs the historical outcome.

@poesel71 and anyone else who hasn't replied yet...

Just gives us a sense of who owns what so we can plan events a bit better... like knowing CMBS probably wouldn't get a good turn out yet for an OOC like campaign on these forums.

Yeah sorry, read Bootie's post. Joy of madly typing in the office when you are meant to be writing an economic paper. :) Essentially should there be an 'End Date' and declare a winner at certain point.

As a fairly green member to these forums, I was quite keen to join in on the already developing campaign and wanted to become a part of it as quickly as possible. I was lucky and found myself being called in as a replacement almost immediately after I signed up as a replacement. This ongoing campaign, with its already three years running, was a huge attraction to me. I think its very unique and the long process is part of the overall fun. It might take a long time but to start over would mean a lot of lost work without conclusion, just seems like a waste in my opinion.

Again I'm fairly green so my opinion should hold less weight but I think its still worthwhile to keep it running.

although not involved for the major part but Bootie did a great job hosting this.

I think an end date would be a good option?

Sure, just as my beloved FJ's are about to finally enter into battle, lol. I thought there was an end date set way back when this started (June 21st maybe???). Anyway, I really enjoy the campaign, so I will continue playing as long as it lasts.

Yeah I believe there was an end date... 21st June sounds about right.... thats 7 more sets of battles. You guys happy to call that the end date?

Just to reiterate this will not be getting canned just looking to how we eventually do finish this one.

June 21st sounds good to me. It's been a blast playing in the OOC. Just wanted to say thanks for putting the time and energy into running it. :salute:
Just to be clear we're saying June 21st 1944... not um yesterday. Considering we're only on about June 14th 1944 we probably safely have another year (or three) of OOC. :p
