That helicopter was used by Volkspolizei (People´s Police) and the NVA (National People´s Army) of the GDR (East Germany - German Democratic Republic). As I was a small child one even could do flights as passenger in such machines if there was a "Tag der Volkspolizei" (Day of the People´s Police) or a NVA celebration. In later years the main user was only the Volkspolizei yet. The NVA switched more and more to Mi-8 and later on to Mi-24.
