My Machine Gun Deployment...

Guys

Just after some comment here - and apologies if I have missed a debate.

I have noticed in several games machine guns failing to deploy properly. Mostly in Buildings. I did a quick search and found some less than convincing defences of the issue on the Battlefront pages- has anyone else noticed it. Seems to me that you can wait and wait and the gins simply won't deploy because the squad keeps trying to move to hit certain targets, or perhaps because of casualties, and I have seen it happen in US, German and Italian units...

Anyone else noticed anything odd, or is it simply a function of the situation the squad finds itself in?

I have read that it takes longer to deploy in buildings than outside - is that because they need to take their coats off and wipe their feet - or again am i missing something fundamental...

Thanks in anticipation

You are correct Richtig. It does take longer for MG teams to "deploy" in buildings. I cannot remember exactly how much longer or under what circumstances but it is supposed to simulate anchoring the tripod properly, constructing something from house to secure MG tripod etc. I'd have to go look at that thread again to find the particulars.

Cheers Enigma - I don't know about you, but I'm kinda hoping my squad realise I would be happier if they just started using the big shooty thing rather than making sure the base complies with the latest ikea health and safety instructions.

I have to say overall I am not convinced by the rationale (But Battlefront must have done it for a reason). And I guess these are the little things the old hands on here must have got used to, and us new guys need to learn quick to get right...

It takes about 2 and a half minute to deploy a medium or heavy MG inside of a building. Personally I think the time for doing that is just fine. Setting up a crew serverd weapon with a tripod in confined spaces takes some time. Don`t forget to give them a face command in the direction you want them to face the gun otherwise they may set it up the wrong direction
If you want them to get out fire faster just don`t hit the deploy button. Then they will fire the MG without setting up the heavy tripod. Downside is the accuracy will dramatically drop down.

@Richtig: No no Rich - since patch 2.12 is installed my MG teams (note well all are ACES with their weapon already deployed!) crouch and crawl in their foxholes for over a minute instead of using the machine gun...

And if their mg is deployed in a foxhole you can tell them to hide - and they will take cover (it seems) - but they won't... in the next turn they are all holding their stupid heads up and start jolly firing... :p

It seems that the "hide" order is colliding with the "deploy weapon" order for units that are sitting in foxholes - as it is the same with mortar teams.

@Strachwitz @Shorker
Cheers guys I knew you would have the skinny.

@Strachwitz - and yes, the direction is a good heads up I noticed on the Battlefront site, that MGs will often stay set up parallel to a linear obstacle if you don't physically move them to contact at 90 degrees - using the face command doesn't always work.

@Shorker - the hide/deploy thing you mention makes sense to me, that could well be one of the problems.

Ah we do love a buggy game...

Yes we do.... :p

But it's worth fighting for - must post my observation/sighting/finding at the BFF tomorrow - Saturday morning with a cup of coffee and no housejobs to do - it's the right time to visit the BF forum. ;)

Well I guess I was wrong then. Thankfully I've only been wrong 4 times in my life. ;)
