Dear all,
I just joined this fine ladder in order to have fun and to enhance my PBEM-skills with the Combat Mission.
My name is Kunduz [] and I am a wargamer since the mid-eighties. As many others I started my activities with Avalon Hill Boardgames (mainly ASL). Later I also drifted into computer Wargames with a peak in the early nineties (Gary Grigsby's Pacific War).
Living in (and at that time still West-)Berlin, Germany since 1984 my access to other players was limited to the (tiny) local wargaming community. Revolution hit me when I had my first contacts with the global wargaming community around 1992 when I discovered the vivid discussion boards on Genie & Compuserve.
After gradutation from University real life hit in and my time for gaming (especially boardgaming) became very limited. Since the year 2000 I play mainly computer-wargames. Unfortunetly I had to relied on the AI as my main opponent except for a few very limited PBEM games.
Combat Mission has always been one of my favorites since it came out in 1999. I have all modules produced since and I am happy to now join an cative community to test my skills against other live opponents.
My playing style is rather slow. I like to analyze things and try to play as realistic as possible. That means that I do not exploit game mechanics in order to win. That of course might hamper my performance on a ladder, however that is for me part of the fun. Only things that work in real life a considered to be ok for leading my troops at hand.
In any case I am a very honest, non-cheating, positive thinking player that never drops out of a match just because my strategy does not work out. I always finish my games and I expect my opponents to match that style.
As I said the fun for me derives from managing my forces during the battle, not just from winning. Generally I should be able to handle up to 3 games in parallel. My turn-around time is about 1/week.
Hope to see you all soon in a couple of exciting matches. I do not care which side / module to play. Generally I prefer playing the V2.0 engine, that means currently we are tied down to CMFI (CMBN & Commonwealth later when the update becomes availbale). However I might consider CMA, CMSF (and its modules) as well based upon your request.
Feel free to challenge me on the new ladder.
Cheers
