A little known Clandestine Operation conducted by the OSS with the aid of the Yugoslav Chetniks. The operation succeeded in repatriating over 500 Allied airmen shot down over Yugoslavia during the Allied effort to destroy the Ploesti oilfields. The operation accomplished this massive rescue without the loss of a single aircraft or crew. While more than willing to accept the help of the Chetniks in rescuing downed airmen, the OSS refused to offer any assistance to the Chetniks in their struggle against Tito's partisans. A little known but fascinating aspect of the war.
