There is an apocryphal story from Bosnia in the '90s.
The UN troops were getting tired of aid convoys being shot up or held to ransom with UN rules of engagement being so restrictive that it was virtually impossible to fire back.
One day a Danish Leopard I was escorting a convoy which was engaged by small arms harassing fire from a bunker across the valley.
For possibly the first time the Danish tank commander had a clearly identified target which was clearly engaging his convoy and he decided to engage the bunker with his main armament.
When asked afterwards why he had fired 20 rounds of 105 HE at the bunker he is said to have replied "I only had 20 rounds HE with me."
