I recently fell to the temptation of purchasing the "Parrot AR Drone" It comes with two hulls, a flashy indoor and a flashier outdoor hull. After seeing the film "Iron Sky" a comedy about Nazi's on the far side of the moon who invade earth, I bought a third hull to modify. I had parts left over from my 1/16 Tiger and HMCS Snowberry as well as other kits and bits. In a couple of rainy BC days I had it ready for it's first test flight. The crew was heavily modified from a standing position to sitting. The gun turret is from HMCS Snowberry and the actual guns from a Verlindon flame thrower, with the tanks behind the conning tower. The conning tower is the exhaust shields from the Tiger 1.
If one can get the chance to play with the Parrot Drone it's a gas. Really easy to fly with iPad, iPhone, or iPod and was is very durable. I had my iPad laying on the ground while I shot the pictures. There was a 5km wind and the drone held in place. It uses a bottom mounted camera for this and ultrasound to maintain it's height.
My new hull is for display as the drone can be damaged by the wrong modifications. It is only 3 grams heavier than the indoor hull.
I included a picture from the movie to compare.
