I have a boxed version of the game, but haven't played it because it is unplayable on my computer. I believe I had Operation Winter Storm demo and it played flawlessly, but I gave up trying to get Ostfront to work.

Sorry to hear that you had tech issues. Have you asked at Matrix for help? It might be related to screen resolutions, seems that adjusting resolutions has solved some folks' issues.
Anyway, I suspect there are PCO owners here that weren't aware an official patch is now available.

I have had the patch for awhile now and play somewhat here and there. Matrix has sort of put this in the closet and have been focusing on other more popular titles. It is a shame actually because they had a couple dedicated guys over there putting some time in on that. Anyhow, If you have it and want to play a PBEM I am game. Let me know. Later.
I think their marketing backfired on them. IIRC Mad Russian took it upon himself to race round all the wargaming websites telling everyone this was gonna put the CMx1 games to an early grave. Seems the only thing that has consigned CMX1 to an early grave was CMx2.

I agree with Bootie, aggressive marketing isn't always the best option.

Maybe the marketing was over the top, but it is an Eastern Front game and it's not bad at all. There are some cool aspects to the order's menu that BFC would be smart to emulate . The SOP system is a way to "tweak" what your units do and how they will take care of business. Graphics are not sexy, for sure, but you get a credible Eastern Front title with tons of battles and now with the patch, a superior custom map maker and random battle generator. And since I have far and away played CMBB much more than the other CMX1 titles, getting a "fresh" Eastern Front perspective worked for me.
