Although the title of the video claims that the rebels shot down one of Gaddafi's planes, according to varius sources, even among the rebels, this plane was of the anti-goverment forces.

I wasn't aware the anti-government forces had any aircraft.

They have, but very limited resources(some planes and few Helos).
Few minutes ago there were breaking news that Europe nations will impose a no fly zone in Libya and French planes are allready started to
fly over Libya.
It would be interesting to see how Gaddafi forces will respond as they do have some A/A capabilities.

Last news are that french Rafale airplanes shot 4 tanks near Benghazi and Mirage 2000 flew reco missions. Earlier this evening, GB announced that their planes were in operation over Libya ( I would think Tornados that went off Scotland earlier this day and have been repositioned in Sigonella (Sicily) for low level bombing of airbases). GB and the US stated they fired 110 Tomahawks from destroyers and submarines in the Med, targeted mainly at the anti aircraft systems. I would think by tomorrow morning the first part of the job (eliminating AA defenses) will be done and that main airbases will be out of operation.
France has at the moment 20 airplanes in operation which will fly from Solenzara in Corsica and the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier will be leaving Toulon tomorrow morning with its Super Etendard and Rafale. The US helicopter carrier Bataan is also on station off the Libyan waters.

Cool :)
Western forces are bringing peace and prosperity again :)

I have a question. Why wasn't the no-fly zone operations carried out entirely by Arab air forces? Is it because operations have to be conducted much closer to the Libyan frontier than land based air operations could conduct? Do not Egypt, Jordan, Saudia Arabia, and other adjacent countries have the capability?

I was surprised to see American journalist even allowed in Tripoli. Not that easy for Americans to get visas into there.

The Arab League is part of the coalition, and should engage planes from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Emirates. What is funny (?) is that at the same time Saudi Arabia has entered troops in Bahrein to help repression of protests and nobody is saying anything (but they have lots of oil !!) :) Egypt has capabilities but is probably in a big mess at the moment...

I don't know about this one. Why is it all of a sudden so important to get Khadaffi out of office ? It seems he has quite a large following in his own country.

You know this as crossed my mind, when I see these people of Libya on the Television they all look pretty healthy to me with plenty of nice cars and the building's look very modern, if they are kicking of because some of them are losing jobs and prices of food and the like have gone up, well join the club the rest of the world are in the same boat, so deal with it, don't bring the western world into the story like I say we are knuckling down we don't always like it, but no doubt thing's and the economy will get better.....Now having said that if there is another story I would be glad to hear it

Gaddafi was behind the Lockerbie bombing so now it's payback time, let's get rid of him and help to install a pro-western leader so we can do good deals for their oil..;)

Appearently he was, but that was YEARS ago. Why now the payback time ?

It's only within the last year or so that Gaddafi has been positively linked to the bombing, so now the West has seized the chance to help topple him.
It's never too late to put down a mad dog..:)

Payback time was during the trials, and while Libya was under sanctions, so this is bad excuse.

Okay, if you prefer let's forget the 270 passengers, crew and Scottish civilians who were killed, and let Gaddafi off..:)

Some people are found guilty and sentenced, Libya was under sanctions, and payed compensation in millions of $$$.
Or you think that some events can be used for forever to cover up things?

Caring about civilians is hypocritical. If you care about Scottish civilians you should care for Libyan civilians too.

We got no beef with ordinary Libyan civilians, we only want to get Gaddafi and his henchmen.
We can then give them a fair trial and hang them so they can go keep Saddam and Hitler company..:)

Don't think Lockerbie has anything to do it wit these attacks. Wasn't the Amercan aerila strik in the 1980's because of Lockerbie ?

Just read the the Arabian League opposes the attacks because "civilian targets were hit". Bunch of hypocrites. As usual and always. Let them sort things out for themselves.

No it was in response to the Libyan bombing of a disco in Berlin in which many American Servicemen were injured/killed.

If you don't care of all civilians killed by western forces, you shouldn't care about Scotish civilians too.
Or simply don't mention civilians.
