Playing CM

Oh yeah Ive been playing CM for a hell of a long time and you do suffer burn out... one of the reasons Im restricting the start up of new tournaments... it is possible to have too much of a good thing. I always find when I am away on holiday for a fortnight or so that it is enough to get my hunger up again though. Of to Egypt with you Ted.

I do believe that moderation in all things is a good thing. I have gone through periods where I felt burnt out on CM, but that has happened with any of my hobbies or interests.

I never was really burned out because life made that I was out of permanent internet connection for 3 years. During that time I was playing games against the AI (if you pickup your scenarios carefully and buff it up a little like +1 / +25% it can be a real challenge - other good thing is that it never disappears in the middle of a game because it's loosing...) and also had a friend with whom we played IP games with direct link between our rigs.
I had completely stopped for the last year because I was playing other things (mainly the Total War series) I am back to business because I can now have a regular internet, but in order to avoid the burn out syndrome, I don't take more than 4 or 5 games at a time. If you play seriously, this is already some work, but as your opponents also have a real life, you get to play around 3 turns a day. Since my present job allows me to play 18 hours a day (keep 6 for sleeping) that's not too much of a burden and I can still play other things besides. And spend a lot of time writing blah blah on the forum...lol

I burn out on CM frequently. And the symptom is easy to diagnose.
When playing the game becomes a chore more work then fun I'm burning out.
Easy to fix. I just reduce my game inventory and pretty soon I'm eager to check my mailbox again.

Same for me. It helps too, to start playing another game for a while. I play Rome Total War too (another oldie) and find that quite intoxicating as well. Although the battles are won to easily aganist the AI....

Another Total War player... great I still play RTR too with Rome Total Realism Platinum mod...

I got really crook about 3-4 months ago and was feeling burnt out. I cut down my games and now that I'm feeling a little bit better am building that level back up again. But not to the amount I was playing 6 months ago.

I am playing Napoleon Total War at the moment, I skipped Empire, was full of bugs... Waiting for Shogun that looks good.

I think it pays to play different games in that way you stay fresh. When it warms up mate you can come fishing with me.

Depends if you are interested by the history of the time. As French, I could not skip it... lol There are two short introduction campaigns (Italy that you must play as a Blitzkrieg because you only have 40 turns of 15 days each to reach Austria and its challenging - Egypt which introduces building and ship battles) and a grand campaign which is not that short (2 turns a month) so around 200 + turns. Moreover you can play it as well as England, Austria, Prussia and Russia. You also have all the famous historical battles plus quick battles you can set on many different maps. I use Toon's All in One mod ( collection of over 50 mods).
