Purchasing a Modern Theater Title

So I'm thinking of buying a new CM title from the modern era. Any suggestions? I played the Afghanistan demo long ago and it was great, but seeing as there's a lack of support I'm left with choosing between SF and BS. SF is an older engine but has modules, and BS is brand new and shiny, but super deadly. And before anybody gets wise I can only buy one :p
 
I might just take you up on that. It's about time I pulled my weight around here :)

Well, Shock Force the base game is going for $15 on Battlefront, and I'm sure I can scrounge up that much to donate to the club. The thing is Shock Force plus all its modules is $55. Black Sea base game is $55.

Maybe a better question would be what do people like to play more these days? It might be wise to get BS just to be with the swing of things, so to speak.
 
I'd say Black Sea. CM titles generally don't age quickly but I think CMSF is probably an exception to that. Also BF have said it's on the agenda to update CMSF down the track with the new bells and whistles of the expanded CMx2 engine. However unlike the upgrade system it will be a brand new release due to the workload.

My ideal scenario would be for this to be built into Black Sea as a module or two to give the fictional modern era a bigger all in one sandbox for players and mission designers. (That's probably not going to happen).
 
The code changes put CMBS ahead of CMSF, unfortunately. But the price is of course very low for CMSF and all its modules. Id probably play both demos and see if you think that CMSF can compete with CMBS, if so go with CMSF. In the long run Id get both ;)
