question on tank "optics"

If a tank or a tank destroyer has it's "optics" damaged so much that it registers as red on the UI, can it still fire (assuming the main gun and weapon controls are still functional)? Does it have to be unbuttoned to fire?

I think you can area fire to your hearts content, unbuttoned or not. I seem to remember doing that anyway. Not 100% sure....

The crew will still fire. Aiming takes longer and spotting for the gunner will be worse. It does not prevent the main gun from being fired.
