Rookie looking to get started

Hello, rookie looking to get into some mulitplayer CMBN... I pretty much suck but am interested in getting better. What's the best way to get started? Should I just sign up for the ladder? Or would some vets be interested in some PBEM to get my feet wet and lend copious advice throughout the game?

About your request: I'm sure some folks will help you out. I'm full on battle's at the moment.
Indeed the best way to learn CMBN is to play many QB's. We have lots of vets here.
