Hi there,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is David, I am a 30 year old South African currently residing in Cape Town.
I come from a military/ police family but went a different direction in life so must quell the urge for war through other means!
I am a lover of all things tactical and strategic - both in a practical and theoretical sense. Wargaming is a wondrous outlet for me to be able to try all the ill advised, madcap schemes I put together.
I love reading about the history and intricacies of military units - my love of the modern age is the ability to read a book about a military unit or battle - then have the ability to jump into something like Combat Mission and actually get a taste of what it might have been like strategically or how the purpose behind a units inception work out practically, which is a joy!
I'm no expert by any means but I enjoy learning new things - even it it means being humbled when wargaming ( which happens more than I'd like to admit )
Also an avid flight simmer - spent a whole bunch of time ( that probably should have been spent with the wifey admittedly) in various flight sims - from way back in Chuck Yeager days to the brilliant DCS titles.
Also spent way too much time with Steel Panthers Main Battle Tank back in the day when I was (more of) a youngan and more recently with a Milsim Arma group here in SA for the last few years.
My love is for the tactical side of things. I haven't delved into the strategic/ operational side since, alas, I was not made for logistics and all those disappointed pixels faces crying about lack of ammo, boots and reserves would weigh heavily on my conscience.
One last thing - always looking for book recommendations.
Recently finished Chickenhawk ( inspired by a spell in DCS Huey ), Sniper One ( working through a great scenario for Shock Force depiciting CIMIC house - http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=112115 )
and am busy rereading my very weathered copy of " A Bridge Too Far " and once again muttering to myself that they should have listened to Major Brian Urquhart.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Anyway,
Greetings gents. Looking forward to being part of the community.
