"Field Marshal J C Smuts (S.A. Prime Minister), Maj-Gen WH Evered Poole (GOC 6th SA Armoured Division) and Lt-Gen Sir Pierre van Ryneveld (S.A. Chief of Staff), in Italy, 24 June 1944"
And what's that below the barrel? It looks like a cannon rest. And is that attached to the hull or goes inside the turret?
I've never seen that before or if I have it ddin't register.
Thanks Louis.

The division was newly formed and training for Italian campaign which they joined in early 1944 -- using whatever was to hand until their consignment of Shermans arrived.
