Has always been my favourite genre, having been through:
  • Most of the original X-COM series, and then also the recent rebooted XCOM & XCOM2 games
  • Jagged Alliance
  • Fallout tactics
  • Silent Storm
  • Xenonauts
  • And suff like Breach and Clear & Frozen Synapse etc
If you can relate to this, I strongly recommend checking out Invisible Inc; it's a joy to play: Stealth based, rogue-like character development, and a host of different characters to customize.

Oh, and one of the make or break features of many of these (computer and also board) games: it DOES have 'opportunity fire'!!!

Cool! Do the missions have timers? That was my biggest gripe with the most recent x-com release.

To be fair, I think only about a 1/3 of XCOM2 missions had timers.... ;)

But no, no timer. Instead there are a series of alarm levels that trigger every 5 turns or so (and this can be accelerated by triggering certain computer viruses, being spotted, knocked-out guards being discovered by their counterparts, killing guards (who have heart rate monitors, etc). Increasing alarm levels have increasing consequences, like extra guards, guard patrols changing up, etc. Basically ratcheting up the tension and making the mission more difficult the longer you dilly-dally.

I *loved* X-Com: Enemy Unknown (the 2012 reboot of the much beloved 1994 X-Com: Ufo Defense). X-Com 2, not so much. I actually got a refund from Steam. My biggest gripe was the number of timed missions, which, IMO, takes away from the strategy and tactics aspect of the game by making you hurry through missions. I don't mind hard missions, I just don't like to rush in a turn based game. I may give it another try when it's on sale. I've heard there are mods to remove or extend the mission timers.

Thanks for the head's up on Invisible, Inc. It looks good!
