Stupid 911 Caller

Being a 911 dispatcher, I've taken my share of calls from real idiots. However, another dispatch center in our state had the privilege of talking to this moron:

LOL! Classic.

On a side note-
How long does it take to trace a call? is it automatically done to every 911 caller? does the emergency authorities have the ability to do it in retrospect?

the number should pop up on the call centres phone when the call comes in, all the calls will be recorded along with the phone number. I think this dumb ass rang off his house phone which is extremely easy to track down

There is lots of free software for iPhone, Android and Symbian phones that uses white pages databases and shows you who calls you in few seconds.
Situation is little bit more complicated when someone calls with mobile phone, but with little bit of triangulation location is no secret :)

Cool :)

Do you happen to know how the android software is called? :D

I always wondered if it really takes significant time like always shown in the movies...

No i don't. I just stumble upon software like that for time to time. Main reason i'm not using it is because it requires permanent Internet connection. I can access Internet from my phone, but it needs some time to "dial" GPRS provider. I suppose this works great with WiFi....but again, WiFi isn;t available all the time.

Yes, if he called from a "landline" the computer screen in the receiving 911 center will display the name of the person the phone is registered to with the street address. If I called from a cell phone the mapping software should display his location with fairly good accuracy. However, judging by how easy it was for the police to find this guy, it is likely he called from a home phone.
