Ok.
The answer is Dr. Alister MacKinzie.
He served in the British Army during WWI as a medical doctor, rising to the rank of Major. During the war, he was appalled by the battlefield injuries he saw. So he started devising ways to help the men avoid being wounded. Ultimately, he became interested in the art of camouflage. Eventually, he started moving earth around to conceal the men, but to make it look natural so that the enemy would not appreciate what they were looking at. Then he moved that talent to designing golf courses.
He resigned from the Army and became arguably the most famous golf course designer, credited with designing Royal Melbourne, Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Augusta National, Pasatiempo, etc. He was quoted as saying that he is most proud of Lahinch in County Claire, Ireland.
