Well if you wanted a book about black beret wearing guys in panzers or dusty cursing Aussie's in the desert this is not it.

This book is about the 32nd infantry Division (THE RED ARROWS) a national guard unit from the Midwest US activated during the second world war. Trained and equipped to fight in Europe BUT.....then sent instead to New Guinea to help McArthur stop the Japanese invasion of Port Moresby. Yea sounds like a long story about a bunch of guys getting screwed by stupid decisions in the upper chain of command right?

Well it is.

This Division was from around my part of the woods up here in Wisconsin so for me it is a good read.

I had relatives in the 32nd and the only experiences there they would talk about to me as a young lad was the heat.

But after reading this I now understand why. I just wish they were still alive so I could tell them how much I appreciated their sacrifice.

I liked this book and there is not to many written about the New Guinea Battles (not one of McArthur's best performances)
