We had a bit of a discontent shall we say, in 1955.
Bombs went off and the prime ministers house was gattagatta by machine gun fire.
No casualties though. Still....could have gone worse. It evolved itself around a waffen SS medic whos past was catching up to him.
The locals turned out to be a bit more reluctant to let him go than the danish authorities expected. So it kinda escaleted with danish marines being sent.
The SS medic was named Halvorsen I believe. You can look up further info if it should interest you.
Cazy period, or was it?

Yeah I don´t know the full details of the event. He was aparantly a member of the nazi party, and that seemed to catch up to him.
but since he was so much liked, both as a medic and person, the locals got angry and resisted. The chief of police was for instance forced back in his boat and sent back packing.

It may well also have been simple nationalism that would be part of it. "we don´t like danes telling us what medics to have or not " kinda thing.

Still....Racking the PM´s house with a machine gun. Bloody hell lol.

"During the Klaksvík uprising, the Klaksvík conflict or dispute of Klaksvík (Faroese: Klaksvíksstríðið [ˈKlakːsvʊiksːstɹʊiɛ] ,Danish:Klaksvigsstriden), the local population opposed a decision by the Danish authoritiesin 1955, which was triggered by Olaf Halvorsen's dismissal. Halvorsen was the chief physician at the hospital in Klaksvík, the second largest city in theFaroe Islands. The resignation of the former supporter of National Socialism happened against the will of the residents. In April 1955, 120 police officers from Denmark were sent to the city to settle the dispute. The residents responded by mining the port. Before the confrontation arose, a preliminary compromise was reached. Another escalation in the autumn of 1955 culminated in an assassination attempt on the Faroese Prime Minister Kristian Djurhuus , who remained unharmed. The doctor's dispute was the triggering factor, but it was actually about the question of Faroese independence from the Danish mother country."

View over Klaksvík (Borðoy, Faroe Islands, Denmark), looking north into the Haraldssund fjord.
At left is the island of Kunoy.

They mined the port, wow! Interesting story from a part of the world I know very little about.
